When Jo and I saw that the Sydney Seafood School had a Fast and Fabulous class we knew we had to attend. The class was advertised as hands on where you learn 3 seafood dishes which are perfect as fast mid week meals or classy additions to any dinner party. When we arrived, we took our seats in the demonstration auditorium and eagerly awaited the start of the demonstration. As always with classes at the Sydney Seafood School, participants are treated to a cooking demonstration before moving through to the hands on kitchen to try the recipes for themselves. Our demonstrator was Brigid Treloar, a cooking consultant and educator at Sydney Seafood School. Brigid took us through each of the 3 recipes giving out hints and tips along the way. The smell of the food cooking in the demonstration auditorium just adds more anticipation for the big moment when you cook and eat the food for yourself.
After the demonstration, the group moves through to the hands on area where after a short safety briefing and being told where to find everything in the kitchen you start to prepare the food for yourself. In small groups of 6 (or less depending on the size of the class) you get to try the techniques shown to you by the demonstrator and prepare different elements of each meal. The demonstrator is available to assist and answer any questions you may have during this time.
You finish the night sitting down around the dinner table with the meals you have prepared, a specially selected bottle of wine and getting to know the people you cooked with a little better (if you don't know them already). This was definitely the highlight for us, the food was delicious and the company was fantastic.
I would thoroughly recommend taking a class at the Sydney Seafood School. It's a great night out for friends, team building with work colleagues or to meet new people.
A gift certificate for the Sydney Seafood School would make a great christmas present too!
