However this is the reality that multiple new parents face when their babies are born premature or sick. In Raechel Bull's book 'Ready or Not .... Out I Come' she takes the reader through her journey from conception, through miscarriage and through the birth and after effects of having a premie baby.
Having had a similar experience to the author this book really resonated with me. It's very emotional having a premie baby, every other new mother in the ward has their plastic bassinet with their precious bundle in it, wheeling them up and down corridors and you.... well you don't.
Raechel has accurately captured the ins and outs of life as a new mum with a premie baby in special care. She has supplemented her own personal journey with topical anecdotes at the end of each chapter from other mothers who have been in different situations. It is a great read for anyone thinking about having children or for those who have had their own and love hearing stories from other points of view.
By no means should this book scare expectant mothers, situations such as Raechel's do not happen to the majority of people, but it is good to know what to expect in the event that something like this will happen to you. For me it was a trip down memory lane and although it was a stressful time in my life I am able to look back now and I have a whole new admiration for women as a whole and especially women like Raechel who get thrown into these types of situations.
